A new strategist for Democrats

Tonight, one after the other, spokesmen for the Democratic Party of the United States unveiled its secret weapon for the 1996 campaign. "Speaker Newt Gingrich" they proclaimed "is running in 435 districts and every vote cast for a Republican is, in fact, a vote for Newt." What they did not tell us is the title of the book in which they found their inspiration.

There is but one book which contains the original instructions. These explain why it is important "not to divide the attention of the people, but to concentrate that attention on a single enemy." "As far as the mass of your followers is concerned" the book insists "the battle is being waged against a single enemy." It bears the title Mein Kampf.

What would move apparently ordinary, decent Americans to take a page from such a source? Surely, under normal conditions, they'd abhor and condemn the author's every word and deed. But these are not normal conditions. Clinton Democrats no longer look upon the Republican Party simply as the other major political organization of America. It is, for them, the source of all ills in the land and the embodiment of nearly every evil characteristic known to man. They found the book which shows the way to accomplish the task with terrifying efficiency.
